Educational society to sponsor 75 girl students

Mangaluru: As a part of the platinum jubilee celebration of the Bethany Educational Society (BES), Mangaluru, the society has decided to sponsor 75 girls from economically poor backgrounds, who are pursuing professional courses.Sister Rose M Celine, president of the society, said: “The professional courses that society wants to sponsor, include nursing, BEd, ITI, KPT, and other courses. Those who want to avail themselves of the facility can contact the Bethany institutions that are spread across Karnataka and other states in the country,” said Sr Celine.BES is established on September 4, 1948, under the visionary leadership and patronage of Servant of God Raymond Francis Camillus Mascarenhas and guided by its first president, Mother Petra BS, alongside the first council of management.Explaining the initiative, Sr Celine said the society run by the congregation of the sisters of the Little Flower of Bethany has been empowering women nationally and internationally, with 56 social service centres across India. The congregation has touched the lives of 4,18,702 women, youth, and children across 937 towns and grama panchayats in 26 states to date. “The empowerment of women has been at the forefront of our congregation’s journey since 1921, with an unwavering commitment to progress. Besides India, the congregation’s educational missions are spread in North West Africa, Tanzania, and Nepal,” explained Sr Celine.The BES has 135 institutions across India, including 40 aided government schools, running in Karnataka alone. Karnataka has the lion’s share, with a total of 90 educational institutions offering education from kindergarten to graduation. “Currently, BES operates 135 institutions, spanning primary, secondary, junior colleges, and two-degree colleges, along with 33 hostels and numerous non-formal, teacher training colleges, and vocational education centres in rural areas. These institutions are spread across 26 states, benefiting over 81,000 students through a diverse range of educational offerings,” said Sr Celine.

Platinum jubilee fete at Bethany

The Bethany Educational Society in Mangaluru will be celebrating its Platinum Jubilee with a closing ceremony on Monday. The society, established in 1948, has played a significant role in education and social progress in the region. The celebration will begin with a thanksgiving mass and will be followed by a cultural program. The event will be attended by notable guests, including the bishop of the diocese of Mangalore and the archbishop of the archdiocese of Bangalore.

CBSE aims to bridge gap between school & higher education institutes

The director of academics for the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in India, Dr Joseph Emmanuel, has emphasized the need to bridge the gap between school education and higher education institutions. He highlighted the challenge faced by students with unconventional subject combinations who struggle to find suitable courses at the higher education level. Dr Emmanuel also discussed the alignment of CBSE offerings with the principles of the National Education Policy 2020, including equity, excellence, accessibility, and inclusivity. CBSE is planning to introduce courses in robotics and drone technology, as well as collaborating with organizations like the National Stock Exchange for skill development.

Shivarathri Mahaswami strove to spread knowledge, education

Dr Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswami's contributions to spreading knowledge and education were praised during his 108th birth anniversary celebrations in Mysuru.
