DJing to be shut by 10.30 pm soon: DCIB officer
Udupi: A septuagenarian has filed a complaint against superintendent of police, Sanjeev Patil, for failing to give him a patient hearing on his complaint against loud music being played in hotels, clubs and restaurants. The complaint was filed with the western range IG, Hemanth Nimbalkar. It could result in loud music being banned after 10.30 pm in Udupi.
In his complaint, Dwaraknath Kudva, 70, said he had returned to his hometown Udupi to spend his last days in peace. However, loud music from hotels and restaurants nearby was giving him sleepless nights. Since he stayed on an upper floor, the sound was amplified. He claimed he had approached Patil, but the officer had disregarded him. Irked, he then lodged a complaint with Nimbalkar against the SP.
Sampath Kumar, inspector at the District Crime Information Bureau (DCIB), said he was aware of the problem. Kumar said he would take up the issue with officers concerned and promised speedy action. He said the police department will make sure that loud music is banned after 10.30 pm.
Barricades on highways
Maxim Saldanha, a resident of Udupi, said barricades placed at regular intervals on highways were causing frequent accidents. “At least one accident has been reported every day because of these barricades as they do not have reflectors,” Saldanha said. “Such barricades have been placed on the Udupi-Byndoor national highway.”
Responding to the complaint, Kumar said barricades had to be put in place because of the unscientific construction of highways. “The issue has been brought to the notice of the SP during a phone-in programme,” Kumar said. “The SP has acknowledged this. The police department will highlight these issues with the NHAI during the next meeting.” He said the issue would be rectified as soon as possible.
Kumar claimed shortage of policemen had worsened the issue. “In the last five years, vehicles have increased manifold. However, we do not have personnel to man the roads,” he said, adding it was one of the reasons for the barricades since it discouraged over speeding.
