District annual development plan for DK approved
Mangaluru: The draft annual development plan for 2026-27 for Dakshina Kannada was approved on Friday at the district planning committee meeting held at the Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat chaired by district minister Dinesh Gundu Rao.
A total funding request of Rs 2,561.2 crore from various departments was approved in the annual draft development plan. This includes Rs 244.4 crore for the scheduled caste sub-plan and Rs 120.2 crore for the tribal sub-plan.
In the education department, a funding request of Rs 91.9 crore was made for various works, including the construction and repair of school rooms, toilets, and boundary walls. The social welfare department requested Rs 49.4 crore.
Under the comprehensive tribal plan, Rs 51.5 crore were allocated for development and repair works, while the welfare department for backward classes requested Rs 139.6 crore, and the minority welfare department requested Rs 42.5 crore in the district annual development plan.
Under the women and child development department, Rs 28.4 crore were approved for the construction of anganwadi buildings, toilets, boundary walls, and 247 other works.
District minister Dinesh Gundu Rao said that all development works should be completed within the stipulated timeframe and that the funds should be utilised to benefit the public through development plans.
