'Dakshina Kannada ideal place for police officers to showcase abilities'

has been promoted deputy inspector-general of police and posted to Bengaluru with department of fire and emergency services. He is among 9 IPS officers who received their promotion orders issued by the state government.


"Dakshina Kannada district is an ideal place for any police officer to showcase their abilities and past 11-months provided me opportunity to do so," Ravikanthegowda told TOI. Lauding the people and the culture of the district, Ravikanthegowda said it is this enlightened sense of one’s rights and duties as citizens that saw relatively trouble free past 11-months where there wasn’t even a relatively minor law and order incident in the district.

Thanking the people, district administration and colleagues of the district police unit for the same, Ravikanthegowda said the new beat system that he introduced in Belagavi as SP there and implemented with success here, the Kannada commands for police parades and functions are some things that he will take home as other positives. "It is the department that allowed for such successful experimentation of its internalised systems,” he averred.

Having worked as DCP in Hubballi and Mysuru police commissionerates and DCP (Central) and North-East in Bengaluru City Police, Ravikanthegowda said he would have loved to complete a mandated two-year stint as SP in Dakshina Kannada. "But for the career growth that the promotion brings, I would have preferred a two-year term here," Ravikanthegowda, said adding he is yet to fathom the responsibilities that awaits him in new posting.

, superintendent of police, internal security division (centre for counter terrorism), Bengaluru, a 2014 batch IPS officer will replace Ravikanthegowda as the new SP of Dakshina Kannada.

, DIGP is the lone officer to be promoted IGP in the list, while six officers, including Ravikanthegowda have been promoted to the rank of DIGP from SPs and two officers to selection grade rank as superintendents of police.
