MANGALORE: The District Administration is gearing up to face the monsoon challenges and has directed officials to be prepared to tackle emergent situation arising out of the situation.
Deputy Commissioner AB Ibrahim has directed officials to get down to the task by forming taluk level coordination committees identifying areas which are likely to be affected during monsoons.

He said that officials should not only identify expert swimmers but also keep boats, excavators, trucks ready to deal with emergencies. He also said that another emergency team should be formed to coordinate with Home Guards and Fire Department.
In the city corporation limits, Ibrahim said major storm water drains should be identified and measures should be taken to remove silt and other blocks which would prevent free flow of water leading to artificial flooding in low lying areas. He also directed city corporation officials to draw up a list of precautions that citizens should take to deal with emergencies and also make a list of private boat and cranes that could be used during emergencies.
He directed all tehsildars to open gruel centres and give adequate relief to affected persons or families within 24 hours of receipt of complaint. The Deputy Commissioner told officials to notify fishermen not to venture into sea in case of adverse weather and take precautions that there is no contagion in case of deaths of livestock.
Apart from this the DDPI has been told to make available school class rooms for emergencies; prune trees branches and keep drains along the NH free from blockages.
