Mangaluru: DC Ravi Kumar MR has written to the medical superintendent of a private hospital, to continue with the treatment of autorickshaw driver Purushotham Poojary,59. He had suffered burns following a low-intensity cooker blast reported in a moving autorickshaw on November 19.
The DC said that the government will reimburse the treatment expenses incurred, through the ESI. So far, the treatment expenses were covered under the ESI contribution of his daughter Meghasri. The hospital authorities had informed the family that the treatment cannot be covered under the ESI, henceforth. In turn, the family members expressed their inability to bear the expenses. Ravi Kumar, in the letter, also urged the hospital authorities not to exert pressure on the family, regarding the treatment expenses.

MLA D Vedavyas Kamath said that the government is extending support in all possible ways to Purushotham Poojary. “I am in touch with Poojary’s family. The BJP leaders have met him and they have extended financial help in personal capacity. Our party workers are responding to the needs of the victim,” he said.
“The compensation will be released as per the rules and as soon as the formalities are completed. Arrangements will be made to provide him an autorickshaw for his livelihood. The new autorickshaw will be provided with his old permit, “ Kamath said.
