MANGALORE: Following the incident of a student attempting suicide on Sri Ramakrishna College campus on September 6, the management has appointed a student welfare officer to help students cope with mental stress.
The college management also has decided not to file a police complaint against students, who broke window panes, furniture and notice board of the college.
College principal K Naveen Shetty said the Computer Applications department head Devicharan has been appointed as the social welfare officer of the college.
Shetty clarified that Shloka Alva, who attempted suicide, was not harassed by the college management. “It is part of colleges discipline that we warn students and ask them to bring their parents when they do not follow rules.
Shloka had agreed to bring her mother to the college. I contacted her mother when she did not come to the college. Shloka refused to bring her mother saying that it would hurt her. It is unfortunate that she made attempted suicide,” Shetty explained.
Around 70 students of II BCom had bunked class on August 29 to rehearse for a cultural competition.
Students, who damaged window panes, furniture and the notice board have agreed to compensate the loss, he said adding that the management will take a decision in this regard soon.
