Cloth bank opens to help patients coming from long distance at Wenlock Hospital

Mangaluru: Minister of health and family welfare Dinesh Gundu Rao, inaugurated ‘Karuneya Totillu' (Cradle of Compassion), a cloth bank set up by the M Friends Charitable Trust at Govt Wenlock District Hospital on Sunday. The initiative will aid those travelling from distant places for treatment at the govt hospital.The public can bring in new or gently used clean clothes, which will be taken by patients or their caretakers in need, he added. Rasheed Vitla, founder of M Friends, said that the Cloth Bank was started at the request of Wenlock Hospital superintendent Dr DS Shivaprakash. He urged people to donate quality clothes, which the staff will distribute to those in need.Zakaria Jokatte, chairman of the trust, said that the trust was established around 12 years ago and has been providing dinner to all caretakers of inpatients at Wenlock Hospital for the past eight years through the ‘Karunya Project'. He mentioned that this project, supported by donors and trustees, will be extended to the Govt Lady Goschen Hospital from Nov 1.MLC Ivan D'Souza, Wenlock Hospital RMO Dr Sudhakar, KMC Hospital Dean Dr Unnikrishnan B, M Friends general secretary Muhammad Arif Padubidri, and trustees were present.
