MANGALORE: Sri Srinivasa Patshala Association will add the pre-university section to its chain of educational institutions from the forthcoming academic year. The association has set up the necessary infrastructure for the purpose at a cost of Rs 65 lakh. A major portion of this has come in the form of "guru dakshina" from the family of T V Raman Pai, an alumnus of this institution in the early 1930s and rest from other donors, philanthropists.
K Mohan Pai, honourary secretary of the association, told reporters here on Tuesday that home minister V S Acharya has consented to inaugurate the new building named T Vimala V Pai Block after the wife of late T V Raman Pai.

The block has 20 rooms, including computer laboratory, and laboratories for physics and chemistry. The Pre-University Board has approved an intake of 100 students for the coming academic year.
Pai said the PU section will initially offer science and commerce subjects. Teachers who have superannuated from the schools managed by the association will be felicitated on this occasion. Pandit Upendra Bhat, disciple of Pandit Bhimsen Joshi and an alumnus of the school, will present Hindustani classical music and Kannada devotional songs at the open-air auditorium on the school premises. Office-bearers of the association were present.
