MANGALORE: Rasheed Malbari, key aide of underworld don Chota Shakeel, claimed that there was a plot to eliminate him at Mangalore district jail.
Speaking to reporters after attending a trial at the district sessions court here, Malbari claimed that undertrial Sharan had assaulted him in jail. Sharan is in judicial custody over the murder of AS Ramakrishna, administrative officer of K V G Medical College, Sullia.

Malbari claimed that weapons were brought inside the prison jail to eliminate him. He also said his complaint on the subject was ignored by jail authorities. Malbari will be lodged here for a couple of days for the trial.
The Interpol-notified criminal and his four accomplices were nabbed in March 2009 by the special squad of Western Range police in close coordination with central and state intelligence agencies near Talapady check post. The intelligence wings had gathered credible information that the gang had conspired to execute or kidnap for ransom a businessman and also to assassinate some prominent persons so as to disrupt the Lok Sabha election process.
