MANGALORE: Rotary International District 3180 as part of its community service programme for 2010-11 will organize free cleft lip and palate camps in Chamarajnagar, Mysore, Kodagu, Hassan, Chikmagalore, Shimoga, Udupi and DK. These camps will be conducted in association with A J Hospital and Research Centre, Kuntikana, Mangalore, Kshema Hospital, Deralakatte, Unity Hospital, Mangalore and Smile Train.
Doctors Dinesh Kadam, Sanath Bhandary, Rajesh Hukkeri, Vikram Shetty and Musthafa will conduct the surgeries totally free at A J Hospital, Kshema Hospital and Unity Hospital respectively in a year-long effort. In addition to free surgery, the Rotary Club will offer free food and accommodation and Rs 500 to the patients towards their travelling expenses, a joint press release from the organisers here on Tuesday stated.
Cleft lip and palate is a birth deformity, which occurs one in 700 live births. This can be treated by plastic surgery at an early age. Free treatment is open to children and adults with such deformity.
Jnana Vasantha Shetty, RI District 3180 Governor will inaugurate this project at A J Hospital and Research Centre here on August 7.
