Celebrate Teachers’ Day in school: Forum

Mangaluru: The Karnataka State SDMC Coordination Forum submitted a memorandum to the department of school education and literacy commissioner in Bengaluru, DDPI in Dakshina Kannada, BEOs and executive officers of Puttur and Belthangady taluk panchayats and others, urging the celebration of Teachers' Day on Sept 5 in schools without declaring a holiday.
The forum stated that, as per educational guidelines for 2024-25, Teachers' Day is an event celebrated at the school level to educate children about its significance, with clear instructions in the educational guidelines to involve various organisations in the celebrations. However, it has been observed that organisations at the taluk and district levels declare a holiday for teachers to celebrate Teachers' Day, thereby disrupting children's education for a day and violating govt orders and guidelines.
Declaring a holiday on that day disrupts children's educational progress and violates the Right to Education Act. They said that disciplinary action should be taken against those who declare holidays for schools without govt approval, as it constitutes a violation of the RTE Act.
