Brain-dead woman’s organ donation saves four lives
Mangaluru: The family of a woman, who suffered blood leak in the brain and was declared brain dead, decided to donate her organs, giving new lease of life to four persons. Prasanna AV, 59, presented with a history of weakness and seizures on March 7. Upon investigation at Indiana Hospital & Heart Institute, she was diagnosed with Diffuse SAH, secondary to Acom and aneurysmal bleed. Despite efforts of the medical team, she was declared brain dead after an evaluation by a team of doctors comprising Dr Elvis Rodrigues, Dr Misri, and Dr Aditya Bharadwaj. "At that difficult moment, the treating team and transplant coordinator Vishwanatha Gowda approached the family, discussing the grave situation and the potential for organ donation. Prasanna's family chose to fulfil her wish to donate her organs, demonstrating an extraordinary commitment to preserving life even in the face of personal tragedy, thereby giving a new lease of life to four people," said Dr Yusuf Kumble, chief interventional cardiologist and managing director. With the support of Indiana Hospital's medical team, all necessary protocols for organ retrieval were meticulously followed.
