Mangaluru: The family of a 47-year- old woman who sustained critical injuries after her two-wheeler was hit by a speeding BMW car that had jumped the divider, has decided to donate her organs after she was declared brain dead.
On April 9, Preethi Manoj was returning home after visiting the Kudroli temple when a speeding BMW jumped the divider near the busy Ballalbagh junction on MG Road, and crashed into her two-wheeler and then another car injuring a 7-year-old child inside the car.

The video of the accident had gone viral. Sowmya S, transplant coordinator, A J Hospital and Research Centre, said that Preethi was first declared brain dead at 2.30 pm on Friday and again at 8.30 pm. After the family’s consent, it was decided to harvest her organs as per the Jeevasarthakathe protocols and team support. The doctors could retrieve three organs. While the liver was sent to Aster CMI hospital Bengaluru, her kidneys were sent to two private hospitals in the district.
City police commissioner N Shashi Kumar, DCP (Law and Order) Hariram Shankar, other senior police officials visited the hospital on Saturday. The commissioner termed the accident as unfortunate as the victim, a project assistant at a bank, paid a heavy price for no fault of hers, he said.
