'BJP finds no vote bank in college student’s murder'

MANGALURU:

District Congress Committee

president Harish Kumar lashed at BJP leaders for their silence over the murder of Akshatha, student of a college in Sullia.

Harish said the BJP leaders are silent because the student, who killed Akshatha is said to be a member of ABVP. “BJP leaders, who politicize deaths, are tightlipped about the murder of

Sullia student

. The reason is that the accused is said to be a member of ABVP,” Harish told reporters on Thursday.

Further, the DCC chief also questioned BJP’s double standards over the deaths of

Deepak Rao

and Abdul Basheer. “BJP leaders politicize the death of Hindus to secure their vote bank. BJP national president Amit Shah visited the house of Deepak Rao during his visit recently. Another innocent Abdul Basheer too was murdered brutally on the same day after Deepak Rao’s murder.

However, Amit Shah chose to visit only Rao’s house and did not have the courtesy to visit Basheer’s house. BJP leaders are following a policy that they do not visit the houses of people from other communities when someone is murdered,” he added.

Amit Shah had visited the house of Deepak Rao on February 20 and handed over Rs 10 lakh compensation that party workers in Mangaluru City North constituency pooled. However, he had not visited the house of Abdul Basheer, who was also killed on January 3 as retaliation to Rao’s murder. Amit Shah had clarified that he was visiting the house of Rao since he was a party worker.
