MANGALORE: 'CREST for Kashmir Cup 3-on-3 Basketball tournament' will be held as part of ‘CREST for Kashmir’ initiative launched by Creating Resource to Empower Society Today (CREST), the youth wing of Centre for Integrated Learning at Mangala outdoor basketball stadium here on October 16.
CREST is organising the event with Mangalore Basketball Club and will be held in different categories - Boys, Girls, Men's, women's open.
The tournament is being organised as a fund raiser to help needy people of Kashmir which was devastated by floods last month. Mayor Mahabala Marla will inaugurate the tournament Naveen Shetty; president of MBC will be present. While registration is on for the tournament, teams can also register on the spot on Thursday. Matches will be played in a league format with prelims on Thursday and Friday, and semis and finals on Saturday.
Activities have been planned as part of ‘CREST for Kashmir’ initiative and include old newspaper collection drive, and mobilising resources through door-to-door campaign. A mall event will also be organised in first week of November. Response to the initiative has been overwhelming, Arun Mallya, coordination of the initiative said. “We shall utilise resources mobilised to identify and rehabilitate a particular village in Kashmir,” he said.
