Asal headed for 175-day run in theatres!

MANGALORE: Clocking 100 days in theatres is a dream for any director. But exceeding director Vijaykumar Kodialbail's own expectation is Tulu film 'Oriyardori Asal' based on his hit Tulu drama, which on November 3 completed 23 weeks in Jyothi theatre. The movie, now on a two-week contract has been shifted to Prabhat theatre, after which Vijaykumar intends to take the print to smaller theatres in the city.
When the movie was screened for 106 ^thday running at Jyothi and Big Cinemas it had broken the previous record for a Tulu film, which ran for 105-days, also at Jyothi. "It is my intention to reach the coveted 175-day mark with Oriyardori Asal in Mangalore," Vijaykumar told TOI adding that he was a satisfied man given that most Kannada and Hindi films made on big budgets and featuring leading stars are not exactly getting the cash registers rolling.
The film so far has been screened in 10 cities across the state with a good concentration of Tulu speakers there. "Momentum for this film is good and I want to cash in on it," admitted Vijaykumar when asked if he was planning to direct one more Tulu film. "The work of script for a new film is presently underway, but the next project will have to wait," he said, adding this has to do with plans to market the film in other markets across India and in the Gulf.
Mumbai, the other major market for Tulu film embraced 'Asal' in a big way on Sunday when 10 shows of it were arranged in eight theatres across the country's economic capital. "Asal is being screened on a daily basis three shows at Cinemax there," Vijaykumar said. There is a vast market in Poona, Gujarat, Chennai and even North Karnataka where this film will cast its footprints on and reach out to the last Tulu speaker in these regions as well, he explains.
With plans firmed to launch the film at Nataraj theatre in Suratkal and Nartaki in Kasargod on November 18, Vijaykumar admits that he is worried about piracy spoiling his plans. "It the pirated DVDs of this films hits the market, it will ruin my plans of sustaining the heat generated by this film for at least one year," he says. Interestingly, his next stage production 'Ajjer' based on Godman is ready and will be launched at Madanthyar on January 1, 2012.
