Mangaluru: Mangaluru City police solved a cash theft case involving over Rs 1.2 lakh within 24 hours, arrested the accused, and recovered cash, a two-wheeler, and a mobile phone in a swift operation.City police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy CH stated that Mohammed Nizamuddin reported on Feb 7 that, after selling arecanuts belonging to Shridhara Alva at a shop on Bibi Alabi Road, he received Rs 1.2 lakh. He kept the cash on the dashboard of his mini pick-up truck and drove to Southern Agencies on JM Road, Bunder, where he purchased ACP sheets. When he returned to the vehicle and opened the dashboard, he found that the cash was stolen. Based on his complaint, a case was registered at Mangaluru North police station under Section 303(2) BNS.

Following the investigation, a special team comprising inspector Sachin Kumar, sub-inspector Sheetal Alaguru, ASIs Shashidhara and Damodar, along with the staff of Mangaluru North police station, arrested the accused near Mannagudda Junction in the city.The accused is Zakir Hussain alias Jackie, 38, a resident of Kasaba Bengre, Mangaluru, currently staying near Jeppu Market, Mangaluru.
From his possession, police recovered Rs 70,000, a two-wheeler used for the crime, and a mobile phone purchased using the stolen money. The accused was produced before the court, which remanded him to judicial custody.Further investigation revealed that the accused was also involved in a house burglary case registered at Kundapur police station and in another case of cash theft from an autorickshaw within the limits of Mangaluru South police station.
