MANGALORE: A delegation of city unit of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishat (ABVP) on Sunday met Aravind Limbavali, minister for higher education and apprised him of various problems faced by the students under Mangalore University. A press release from Pavan Shetty, city unit secretary of ABVP here stated the minister directed vice-chancellor of the university to sort out the issues with the students.
The major demands raised by ABVP in a memorandum to Limbavali include permitting students of fifth semester to write their pending papers from that semester in the sixth semester.

A system to carry over should be permitted for students of technical education. Problem of basic infrastructure in all government colleges under Mangalore University should be addressed and a complaint cell set up for students to register complaints.
The university should reduce revaluation fee and the results of the same should be announced at the earliest. The government must take action to remove from service lecturers caught in various academics-related scams. Women students from rural areas should be given preference in university hostels. The university should consider the income certificate produced by `gadinadu' students, the memorandum stated.
Other demands put forth before Limbavali include the need to computerize the degree certificates awarded to graduate and post-graduate students. The university should reduce the examination fee prescribed for the HRD course and the results of semester examinations should be announced in a fortnight from the date on which evaluation for it is completed. Purushottam Sullia, district convener of ABVP headed the delegation.
A delegation from Association of First Grade College Principals of Mangalore University headed by Y Bhaskar Shetty, honorary president urged Limbavali to clear the confusion on colleges remitting the entire tuition fee to the joint account. They impressed on him the need to fill vacant posts in aided institutions, and also restructure combinations in basic arts and science courses to attract students in view of the dipping admissions.
