A few ‘habitual offender’ MLAs disrupting House: Karnataka assembly speaker

Mangaluru: Legislative assembly speaker UT Khader said a few "habitual offenders" created trouble in the state legislature.Responding to a query on remarks made by Congress MLA from Arasikere, Shivalinge Gowda, Khader said one must be cautious while giving emotional reactions. "I expect MLAs to conduct themselves in the upcoming legislature sessions," he said.
Calling those who use unparliamentary words and disrupt proceedings "habitual offenders", Khader said only a few among the total MLAs fell into this category. "MLAs should introspect and protect the dignity of the House. MLAs have responsibilities, and they should refrain from using unparliamentary words. They know the laws of the land," he said.He added that MLAs from coastal districts were known for their conduct, discipline, and simplicity. "It hurts when MLAs use derogatory words against others in the House. All MLAs have the responsibility to ensure that the business of the House goes smoothly. Being the speaker of the legislative assembly, I have to maintain balance between the MLAs from the ruling party and the opposition," he said.In another press conference, MLC Ivan D'Souza said the speaker had the right to punish MLAs for any misconduct inside the House.
