Udupi: A petty quarrel over an extra pani puri escalated into a physical assault near Malpe Beach on Tuesday evening, leading to the registration of a case and counter-case and the arrest of nine people by Malpe police.
According to police, the incident occurred around 8:30pm at a pani puri stall near the Malpe Beach when tourists from Mandya district reportedly got into an argument with local vendors over an extra pani puri. The verbal spat soon turned violent, with both groups allegedly assaulting each other.
Following the incident, Malpe police registered separate cases based on complaints from both parties. In one case, six persons, including Sudeep, Sampath, Puneeth, Mahesh, Kanna Vaiji, and Aravind, were named as accused. In the counter-case, three others — Ramesh, Monu, and Vinod — were booked. All nine accused were arrested.
