Mangaluru: A delegation of five Australian swimmers participated in a 12-day camp organised at Varanashi Organic Farms in Bantwal, in association with the Karnataka Swimming Association and Puttur Aquatic Club (PAC), recently.
High-performance coach and aquatic educator Partha Varanashi said the purpose of the camp was to help connect Indian swimmers with Australian swimmers by making them stay and train together, develop sporting relationships and nurture friendships.
The camp was led by Partha Varanashi and Niroop, who is currently working as a development coach in HC Swim Club, Tasmania. Rachel Brennemo, national and target coach, HC Swim Club, represented the Tasmanian swimmers. The swimmers who attended the camp are Lara Pederson, 15, Tessa Yu, 20, Christopher Allie, 25, Jessalyn Potter, 17, and Daniel Shilcock, 16. They are members of HC Swim Club, Tasmania, Australia.

Anand Desai, life saving sports coach Rohith and development coach Deekshit were the other trainers. Physio/ strength and conditioning session by Dr
Sai Kiran, yoga sessions by Abharana Kakkal and Carolyn Simon and pottery class by Tasmayi Bhagmane, were held. An interaction with India’s ace swimmer Siva Shridhar from BAC, Bengaluru was the highlight. Swimmers of the Puttur Aquatic Club and other clubs also attended the camp.

Sanjeev Shetty store sponsored a pair of south Indian traditional clothes, designed by his sister Namratha. Shwetha, an artist, designed mandala art mementoes, Neethi Rai from PAC taught them Bollywood steps and Prathima Hegde hosted the team at Puttur. A cultural evening was also arranged. The team toured Mysuru, Hassan and other places. They also went surfing at the Tannir Bavi beach.
