4 held for cattle transportation

Mangaluru: Police arrested four persons who were transporting four cattle in a goods vehicle for slaughter in Ullal police station limits.
City police commissioner Kuldeep Kumar R Jain said the arrested accused are Ahmmed Irsad from Azad Nagar, Khalid BM from Manjeshwar Bangra, Jafar Sadik from Alekala in Ullal and Payaz from Bastipadpu in Ullal. According to police, after purchasing four cows from a woman in Amblamogaru, they were transporting them to Alekala. A motorbike was following the vehicle. However, the vehicle developed a technical snag, after which the occupants were questioned by locals. The accused left the vehicle and fled from the scene. A case was registered, following which all the four accused were apprehended near Kallapu.
Motorbike rider killed

A two-wheeler rider was killed and a pillion rider suffered injuries in an accident between a KSRTC bus and a two-wheeler on the third curve of the Charmadi Ghat stretch.
According to police, the deceased is Mohammed Irfan,22, and the injured is Avin Edward D’Souza, 19. They were riding from Kottigehara to Ujire. It is alleged that the bus driver drove rashly and rammed the handle of the motorbike. As a result, they both fell on the road. Irfan sustained serious injuries and died en route to hospital. Avin is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Mangaluru.
