MANGALORE: Mangalore City Police arrested two persons on charges of selling stolen property to a jewellery store located on New Field Road, Car Street here. The accused are Muhammad Sharief (28) of Belma in Deralakatte village and Raees Muhammad Raja (21) of Uliya Road, Ullal. Police recovered gold jewellery weighing 81 grams, valued at Rs 1.70 lakh from the jewellery store, a release from City police chief Seemanth Kumar Singh stated.

The accused received stolen property from Jamaluddin, who surfaced two years ago after his involvement in cases of chain snatching and fled the country. He was nabbed at Bangalore International Airport Ltd in Bangalore when he attempted to re-enter the country on April 21 and produced before the court. Jamaluddin now is in judicial custody. During questioning, he had admitted to passing on the stolen property to Muhammad Sharief.
Sharief in turn used to give the jewellery to Raees Muhammad, who worked as a salesman in the jewellery store. Raees used to pawn the jewellery at the store and pass on the proceeds to Jamaluddin. One of the two chains recovered was snatched from the person of Indira Raikar at Mannagudda and the second chain from the person of Vasu of Boccapatna. The cases had remained undetected for the last two years as Jamaluddin was not in the country.
