‘Women’s standard of living rose many fold’
Madurai: Maperum Tamil Kanavu, organised by the state government in colleges around the state, helps sow the value of social justice among students, said Bava Chelladurai, renowned Tamil short story writer, at an outreach event held at Yadava women's college in Madurai on Friday.Addressing the students, he said the standard of living of women in the country has increased drastically in the last 30 years. “Three decades ago, driving a two-wheeler was a dream for many women, but now, women driving a vehicle is common on the road.” Opportunities for women to excel in life have increased over the years, he added. Later, Narthaki Nataraj, member of Tamil Nadu advisory committee, said Tamil literature is a big source of information for students to learn “how to lead a life with morals and ethics.” She said everyone has equal opportunities in the present world and all one needs to succeed in life is consistent effort.
