Woman stabs mom-in-law, commits suicide
Trichy: A 45-year-old woman allegedly stabbed her mother-in-law with a machete near Thiruverumbur in Trichy on Saturday night and later committed suicide.
The deceased was identified as M Eswari, who hailed from Krishna Samuthiram. Her mother-in-law Chinnaponnu, 60, was receiving treatment at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH) in Trichy.
According to the police, the women were widows and were staying together. They were said to have long-standing issues and frequently got into a quarrel. Similarly, on Saturday night they got into another argument during which, in a fit of anger, Eswari allegedly attacked her mother-in-law with a machete.
Chinnaponnu suffered severe injuries and was sent to MGMGH for treatment. When Thiruverumbur police were notified about this, they conducted an investigation and went in search of Eswari. They found Eswari hanging in a tree branch at a farmland near her house.
The police sources said that Eswari might have gotten depressed with the turn of events on Saturday and would’ve taken the extreme step.Her body was recovered and sent to Thuvakudi government hospital for postmortem. A case has been registered and investigations are on.
