Madurai: Woman accountant held for fraud

: The city police arrested a 38-year-old accountant of an agricultural products company for misappropriating company funds worth over Rs 1.46 crore over a period of several months. Police have also booked three other people including the woman’s husband and an advocate in connection with the

The arrested woman has been identified as D Sathyapriya of Bethaniapuram in Madurai. She was working as an accountant at Satyam Bio private limited in Ellis Nagar here. The company’s Madurai branch’s chief secretary, R Bharat Raj learnt about the misappropriation during a recent audit after which he had confronted the accountant.

In response, Sathyapriya and her husband Deivendran allegedly abused and threatened Raj after which he filed a complaint with the S S Colony police. After investigations, the S S Colony police registered a case under sections including 420 (fraud), 506 (ii) (criminal intimidation), 406 (criminal beach of trust) of the IPC and arrested Sathyapriya. Police said that the accused created bogus receipts and bills and kept transferring funds to another account.
