A 35-year old widow, Selvi of Singampunari in Sivaganga district committed suicide by consuming poison on Thursday. According to the Keelavalavu police, Selvi was staying in her parents' residence in Melur in Madurai along with her two sons after her husband died a few years ago. Over the past few days, she was seen worried about her children's future and did not talk to anyone properly.

In this scenario, she consumed poison on Thursday, when no one was in the house. Though she was rushed to the government hospital, she died, police said.
Duo held for trying to steal battery:
Two people were arrested on charges of trying to steal a battery from an autorickshaw. Police said Kathiravan, an auto driver in Jaihindpuram had parked his vehicle in front of his house. During night, one Karthik of Managiri and Mayilvaganan of Keelathoppu came there and allegedly attempted to steal the battery. Neighbours who saw it, caught the duo and handed them over to police.
4-year old girl dies after fall:
A four-year-old girl died after slipping in the bathroom of her house. Police said, A Karthiga was the daughter of one Ashok Kumar of Vilacheri. She was studying LKG in a private school in her locality. A day ago, she slipped in the bathroom. Her parents rushed her to the government hospital in Madurai. But, she succumbed to injuries at the hospital. The Thirunagar police registered a case and are investigating.
Two surrender in murder case:
Two people surrendered before the Usilampatti judicial magistrate in connection with the Sellur murder case on Friday. G Arumugam, 40, of Thanjakoor in Sivaganga district was found murdered with multiple injuries on the Vaigai riverbed under Kamarajar bridge in the Bypass Road on Tuesday morning. The accused were identified as J Veerasubash, 27, and T Masanam, 41. The magistrate ordered them to be detained in judicial custody.
