Vijay unveils AI-driven governance plan
Kanyakumari: Vijay on Sunday announced a third set of poll promises centred on "AI-powered governance" and multi-tiered digital reforms, outlining what he called TVK's Agenda for 21st Century Good Governance during his campaign in Kanyakumari district.
He said welfare schemes will reach beneficiaries without bribery through a proposed "Tamil Nadu Citizen Privilege Card" for every family, integrating all household details to ensure seamless delivery of benefits.
"From birth to death, the benefits meant for every individual will reach them automatically; there will be no need to apply," he said, adding that people would no longer need to pay bribes to access government services.
Highlighting the role of technology, Vijay said artificial intelligence wll be used to deliver welfare services directly to citizens. "What I am saying is not a story spun by ‘Stalin sir'; it is scientifically feasible," he said.
Criticising the current administration led by M K Stalin, he alleged delays in public services were often linked to bribery. "Officials delay work citing documentation issues, but the real problem is the demand for ‘dabbu'. This is not governance; it is harassment," he said, adding that such practices must be eliminated.
Vijay said a TVK government would enact a "Tamil Nadu Right to Service Act" within six months of assuming office. He also proposed a ‘Vetri Tamil Nadu Super App' to provide services such as driving licences, ration cards, scheme tracking and grievance redressal on mobile phones. Delays in service delivery would invite action against officials, he added.
He further promised a "Tamil Nadu Realtime Governance Dashboard" to ensure transparency in public spending and track beneficiaries of government schemes.
Emphasising public participation, Vijay said citizens would be able to contribute to governance through a dedicated platform, allowing them to submit ideas, vote on policies and monitor expenditure. Petitions with sufficient verified signatures would be taken up for official response and even legislative debate, he added.
On economic and technological development, he said Tamil Nadu could emerge as a hub for artificial intelligence and digital innovation. He proposed setting up the state's first artificial intelligence university, an "AI City", and innovation centres in Madurai, Coimbatore, Salem and Trichy to support startups. He also announced plans for a dedicated ministry for artificial intelligence.
Addressing the state's finances, Vijay said Tamil Nadu's debt had crossed ₹10.5 lakh crore and stressed the need for fiscal discipline. "Our solution is to increase revenue without imposing additional taxes, spend efficiently, and create new income avenues," he said.
Concluding his speech, he framed the election as a direct contest. "This is a two-way fight—between TVK and the DMK. Do you want Stalin sir's rule or your Vijay?" he said.
Vijay later took out a cycle rally along the highway after the campaign.
