MADURAI: Madras high court has directed the district collector to appoint verification officers to check the genuineness of houses allotted to beneficiaries under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) scheme in Trichy district.
A division bench directed Trichy superintendent of police to initiate criminal action against officials of Lalgudi panchayat union who misappropriated funds for allotment of houses under PMAY.
The court passed the order while disposing of a PIL which alleged several malpractices in allotting houses to PMAY-G beneficiaries. Petitioner said that panchayat union officials had created a fake approval with dead people's thumb impression and misappropriated money.
He said collector had admitted misappropriation by 10 panchayat union officials and that disciplinary proceedings were initiated against them. Houses were allotted to ineligible people for extraneous consideration and therefore criminal action should be initiated against the erring officials. Petitioner moved HC Madurai bench seeking a direction to the collector to lodge a complaint to DVAC to initiate criminal proceedings against these officers.
