MADURAI: The introduction of variety rice and multiple dishes in the noon meal scheme was formally launched by district collector, AnshulMishra, at the ThirumogurPanchayat Union School here on Wednesday.
The government had last year announced that 13 new rice varieties and four egg dishes would be introduced in all the noon meal centres across the state instead of the regular meal, which comprises rice and dhal.

A group of chefs including Chef Damodaran visited various districts between last October and November where they trained the cooks and noon meal organisers in these dishes. The culinary workshop was called 'training of trainees' and the workers' trained by the chefs later taught the cooks and assistants in all the noon meal centres.
Inaugurating the scheme on Wednesday, Mishra said that all the cooks and assistants in the district were trained including in Madurai corporation and municipalities. The scheme will be implemented in all 1,440 centres in the district benefitting 1,81,798 students, he said. In the same way, the scheme was launched in specific centres in all the southern districts.
