Madurai: The Madurai city police arrested two men for raping a woman from Gujarat at a lodge in Madurai in December 2022. The woman, who was pursuing chartered accountancy had come to Madurai from Ahmedabad on December 16 to attend a consultative meeting. She was staying at a private lodge in Teppakulam. On the day of the meeting, she informed M Ashish Jain, 22, of Chennai, who was staying in the next room, that she was unwell.
Jain then reportedly asked K Jerome Kathiravan, 22, of Kanchipuram, who was also staying at the hotel, to bring food and medicines. The woman consumed the food. But subsequently, the two men raped her. Based on a complaint filed by her, a case under Section 376 of the IPC, on April 8. Police arrested both Jain and Jerome.
Councillor creates ruckus in meeting: Ward 35 councillor S Janaki created a ruckus during the public grievance meeting held at north zone of Madurai corporation on Tuesday, demanding mayor Indrani Ponvasanth take steps to open the closed paid corporation toilet in Anna Nagar before the Chithirai festival. The councillor claimed that the mayor refused to order any work in ward 35 until the “councillor respects the mayor”. According to officials, the toilet near Shantiniketan apartment in Sathamangalam was closed due to an issue in demarcation of wards. The toilet falls in between wards 34 and 35, said an official. “Mayor disrespected me and showed partiality between wards. I have personally raised these complaints to the mayor many times,” Janaki said. Responding to the allegation, the mayor said, “The issue will be solved amicably if the councillors approach us peacefully.” Later, the mayor inspected the primary health centre in Sellur and laying of roads under TURIP project at Union Bank colony in ward 2.
Special train for Saurashtra Tamil Sangamam: Southern Railway has announced a special train from Madurai to Veraval in Gujarat in view of Saurashtra Tamil Sangamam which is scheduled from April 17 to 26. Madurai is one of the cities where the Saurashtra community people live in good numbers. Train No. 06301 Madurai - Veraval special fare special will leave Madurai at 5.40pm on April 14 and reach Veraval at 7.30am on the fourth day. Altogether 10 services are planned from April 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22 and 23. These trains will stop at Dindigul, Trichy, Villupuram, Tambararm, Chennai Egmore, Renigunta, Kacheguda, Nanded, Pooma, Akola, Jalgaon, Nandurbar, Surat, Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Surendranagar and Rajkot. Advance reservation for the above train is open.
Man nabbed for creating fake FB page of police: Virudhunagar district
cyber crime police on Tuesday arrested a man who created a fake Facebook page in the name of Tamil Nadu police. Tamilselvan, 29, a construction worker and resident of Thiruthangal near Sivakasi, created the FB page in the name of Tamil Nadu police with its emblem. He also posted false information on the page. Believing it to be the official Facebook page of the state police, thousands of people have been following it. After the district cyber crime police received a complaint, they found out that the page was run by Tamilselvan. On Tuesday, police arrested him, and he was remanded in judicial custody.
