Two farmers stage black flag protest during Avaniyapuram jallikattu, booked for not wearing masks

MADURAI: The Avaniyapuram police in Madurai booked two young

farmers

for not wearing

masks

after they staged a

black flag protest

at the

Avaniyapuram jallikattu

venue on Thursday in support of farmers protesting in Delhi.

The two young farmers have been identified as Vinoth Kumar, 27, of Thirupuvanam Pudur in Sivaganga district and Palpandi, 25, of Avaniyapuram. They are members of a Tami outfit called Veerakula Amaran Iyakkam.

They were among the bull tamers. While the bull-taming game was progressing at the sixth round, they took out black flags and showed them to the spectators, unmindful of the raging bulls. They raised slogans supporting the farmers staging protest in Delhi and demanded that the central government withdraw the controversial farm laws.

The police said that the duo were booked under two sections of the IPC for not wearing mask in a public place and thereby were likely to spread infectious disease and under a section of the Epidemic Act. They were arrested and released on bail.
