MADURAI: Students from TVS matriculation school in the city stole the show with their blistering performance to run away with the first prize at the second edition of Quizzerthanda here on Saturday. A large number of schools and individuals from across the state took part in the event.
R Rishekesh and R Vignesh Srinivasan of TVS matriculation school were the winners in the school category while Adithya Damodhar and Aravindhan from Vikaasa School secured the second prize.
Mahatma School (Baba building) secured the third spot. Quizzerthanda 2K18 was jointly organized by The Madurai Quiz Society Trust, Quiz It and Berty Ashly Think Tank to create sensitization on quizzing.
City corporation commissioner Aneesh Sekhar, an avid quizzer himself, inaugurated the day-long event at the Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce auditorium. Dr Zameer Pasha and Madurai central MLA, PTR Palanivel Thiagarajan, also took part. In all, 250 teams of two members each took part in the school and open category. Questions were translated to Tamil for the convenience of 25 teams from Madurai corporation schools.
In the open category, R Jayakanthan and Srinath from Quiz Foundation of India, Chennai secured the first prize while Kavin Athithan and Nimalan of IIT Madras secured the second spot. A cash award of Rs 15,000 was given to winners in the school category whereas Rs 25,000 was awarded to the winners in the open category.
Dr D Sundarnathan of Madurai Quiz Society Trust said that the event was being conducted to sensitize people about quizzing and the awareness level was increasing every year.
