As soon as the alarm sounded about the hijack, an aerodrome committee meeting was held. District collector G Lakshmipathi presided over the meeting.

The ACM reviewed the security facilities and preparedness at the airport following the hijack. The meeting was attended by airport director R Rajesh, Tuticorin town DSP Sathyaraj, Jayakrishnan from the Central Intelligence Bureau and National Security Guard, Indian Coast Guard and airport officials.

The drill is conducted every year to assess the ability of the airport to handle any kind of unlawful interference to civil aviation like a terrorist group hijacking a passenger aircraft.

The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security mandates that airports across the country conduct this annual exercise.
