Two tourists injured as tree falls on car on Kodai hill road
Dindigul: Two tourists were severely injured when a tree fell on their car near Mulaiyaru on the Kodaikanal-Vathalagundu hill road following continuous rainfall on Sunday.The family from Kottayam, Kerala, was returning from a vacation in Kodaikanal when the accident occurred. Five passengers were trapped inside the vehicle and were rescued by passing motorists. The injured, identified as John and Dominic, were taken to Panaiyakkadu Government Hospital, while the others sustained minor injuries. The incident temporarily disrupted traffic as highways officials cleared the fallen tree.Heavy rainfall in the Dindigul district over the past two days has uprooted trees in several areas, including the Kodaikanal hill road.Kodaikanal, which saw an influx of tourists during the Ayudha Pooja holidays, recorded around 112 mm of rainfall on Saturday, causing difficulties for visitors. Boating services were suspended, and many tourists were confined to their accommodations. However, by Sunday, the rain subsided slightly, allowing visitors to explore popular spots like Silver Cascade Waterfall, which attracted large crowds.
