Torture victim moves high court for relief in Ambasamudram case
Madurai: A victim whose teeth was broken by suspended assistant superintendent of police (ASP) Balveer Singh using a stone, filed two petitions before the Madras high court on Friday seeking compensation and inquiry report of IAS officer P Amudha who was appointed as the high level inquiry officer to probe into the Ambasamudram custodial torture incidents. The petitioner T Arunkumar, a resident of Ambasamudram stated that as per the provisions under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and Rules interim compensation has to be provided to victims. However, no compensation was provided to him. Hence, he moved the Madurai bench of Madras high court. In his second petition, the petitioner sought for a direction to provide him a copy of the final inquiry report of Amudha. He also sought the Tirunelveli district collector to provide him a copy of the reports of sub-collector who conducted an inquiry.Justice D Nagarjun directed the registry to post these cases along with a connected matter on August 21.It may be recalled that the petitioner had earlier filed a petition seeking a direction to the CB-CID officials to complete the investigation in the case and file the chargesheet before the concerned jurisdictional court. The court had sought a report from CB-CID on the progress of investigation and adjourned the case to August 21.
