TN in neglect due to DMK’s dynasty politics: Goyal
Madurai: The dynasty politics of DMK, comprising chief minister M K Stalin, his son Udhayanidhi Stalin, son-in-law Sabareesan and Tuticorin MP Kanimozhi, which in turn has resulted in rampant corruption, has brought Tamil Nadu into neglect and delay, Union minister of commerce and industry Piyush Goyal said on Sunday.
Tamil Nadu has a lot of potential, and many business leaders are placing their interests in the state, but that interest is not being properly harnessed by the ineffective DMK govt, because of rampant corruption, Goyal said on Sunday.
"Investors and businesses desire good law and order, high-quality infrastructure, a peaceful work climate and amenities like electricity available at reasonable prices. But most importantly, they want a corruption-free govt," Goyal said. He questioned whether the DMK govt had met the expectations of the people and its performance, highlighting issues with crime against children and drug abuse among the youth. These issues are also having a negative impact on tourism within the state.
"Tamil Nadu needs a change for the better, with a govt that cares for its people and promotes opportunities. The goal is to make Tamil Nadu an international business centre and ensure development reaches every corner. The Tamil Nadu NDA, led by AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, aims to create an environment of trust with strong law and order enforcement," he said, adding that they will ensure there is no corruption and that development reaches every corner of the state.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi focused on increasing and improving infrastructure," Goyal said, speaking about the achievements of the Union govt. Holding the state govt in contrast, he said, "But in Tamil Nadu, corruption has only increased, affecting tenders, contracts, land allotments, sand mining licences and the liquor business."
He claimed that the state govt has not responded to requests to correct the DPR and provide clarifications for metro rail projects in Coimbatore and Madurai. "The state govt is in the process of giving land to the Centre for the runway," he said, hinting at delays in land acquisition for Madurai airport runway expansion.
Goyal also said that the BJP would ensure that Udhayanidhi never becomes the chief minister of Tamil Nadu. "Udhayanidhi Stalin is a person who does not respect Tamil culture, its pride, its history or its heritage. We will make sure he can never become CM of Tamil Nadu," he said, adding that to vote for DMK is to vote to make Udhayanidhi Stalin the CM.
