MADURAI: The state government has informed the Madras high court that ‘Attack’ Pandi, a murder convict in the Dinakaran newspaper office burning case has been shifted to the

Madurai

Central Prison.

Pandi had filed a petition stating that he has been lodged at the

Palayamkottai Central Prison

in

Tirunelveli district

for the past three years.

Since he was facing trial in a criminal case before the IV additional district and sessions court at Madurai, he had to travel 340km from

Palayamkottai

to Madurai to attend the trial.

He stated that since he is ill, the doctor who treated him advised to avoid long travel.

Due to this reason he filed a petition before the IV additional district and sessions court at Madurai and the court allowed his petition to transfer him to the Madurai Central Prison in an order dated October 4.

Since the authorities concerned did not taken any steps to comply with the court order, the petitioner moved the high court Madurai bench seeking to transfer him from Palayamkottai Central Prison to Madurai Central Prison by complying with the order of the IV additional district and sessions court at Madurai.

When the petition was heard on Thursday, the state government submitted that Pandi was shifted to Madurai.

Taking note of the submission, justice A D Jagadish Chandira closed the petition filed by Pandi.
