Three held for robbing businessman

Madurai: A 53-year-old businessman was waylaid by a group of robbers who threatened and stole his gold ring and cash near Vadipatti on Monday. Three people were arrested in connection with the incident.The businessman was identified as N Ramanathan, 53, of Vadipatti, who runs a coconut coir business. On Monday afternoon, he was travelling in his car on the Dindigul to Madurai Bypass Road. As he neared Kulasekaran Kottai Junction, three men on a two-wheeler waylaid and stopped his car. The trio then proceeded to assault the businessman and threatened him. They also took him to the Bala Dhandayuthapani temple in Vadipatti and robbed him of his gold ring worth 30,000 and 900 in cash.Based on Ramanathan’s complaint, police registered a case . Police arrested V Parattai Arumugam, 35, G Chellaiah, 28, and M Gopinath, 35 from Vadipatti. Police said that one of the accused, Arumugam had several previous cases against him, including for robbery at the Vadipatti and Ammayanaickanur, Batlagundu police stations in Dindigul.TNN
