bench of the Madras high court has directed the managing director (MD) of Tasmac to appear before the court on March 4 with various details sought by it.

The court gave this direction while granting interim injunction against the setting up of a new Tasmac shop near Pallia Agraharam bus stop in Thanjavur district.

When the public interest litigation (PIL) petition filed by Mahendran was heard on Monday, a division bench of justice N Kirubakaran and justice S S Sundar observed that the ruling party in its 2016 election manifesto assured that Tasmac shops would be closed, however, many of them are said to be opened in the state everyday contradicting the assurance.

Hence, the court sought details such as number of Tasmac shops that existed in 2016, number of shops closed till date, year-wise and district-wise details of shops closed, income in different stages and district-wise details of Tasmac shops open in the state after 2016 election.
