MADURAI: Chief minister MK Stalin on Thursday launched the 'Natpudan Ungalodu' and 'MaNaM' initiatives through video conference at all 36 government medical colleges across the state, including Madurai Medical College, to help in tackling mental health issues of students and preventing suicides.

At Government Rajaji Hospital, the initiatives were inaugurated on Thursday morning by collector S Aneesh Sekhar in the presence of GRH Dean Dr A Rathinavel and other officials. The collector also handed over a training handbook for the 'MaNaM' initiative to a student ambassador from Elango Corporation Higher Secondary School, Madurai. Under the 'Mananala Nallaadharavu Mandram'.

"The 'MaNaM' initiative is being successfully implemented at Madurai Medical College for students pursuing medical, dentistry, nursing and paramedical courses. We have got good response from students. In three months, we had 10 students come forward to get counselling," said Dr G Amutha, head, department of psychiatry. In the future, training will be provided to two teachers at each government-run school.
