Tamil Nadu CM announces Rs 2 lakh relief to kin of man who drowned
MADURAI: Tamil Nadu chief minister M K Stalin on Monday condoled the death of a 35-year-old man who drowned while bathing in the Periyar canal in Kallandhiri on November 13. He announced Rs 2 lakh compensation from the CM’s public relief fund for his family.
P Yogeshwaran, a civil engineer from Kamarajapuram in Madurai, and his friends went to bathe in the Periyar canal on November 13. Yogeshwaran went missing while bathing. The following day, it was found that Yogeshwaran had drowned in the water and his body was washed up at one end of the canal.
Fire and rescue services department personnel recovered the body. The Appanthirupathi police registered a case under Section 174 CrPC.
