Stalin announces relief to boat accident victims

Madurai: Chief minister M K Stalin on Wednesday announced a compensation of 2 lakh each to the families of three people who drowned in Devipattinam sea in Ramanathapuram district on February 20. K Irulayi, 55, I Manimegalai, 50 and M Muthumani, 33, had visited the Ulanayagi Amman temple in Devipattinam for Masi Amavasya and decided to undertake a joy ride in a country boat which was illegal. Half-a-kilometre into the sea, Irulayi and Manimegalai fell into the sea when the boat took a sharp turn. Muthumani, who saw them drowning, jumped into the sea and all three drowned. Muthumani’s body could be traced only the next day. Expressing his condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the accident, Stalin announced the compensation from the chief minister’s relief fund.TNN
