Madurai: General manager for Southern Railway, RN Singh, inspected the ongoing station redevelopment work at Rameswaram and Ramanathapuram stations on Wednesday and reviewed the progress of the projects.
At Rameswaram, Singh reviewed the 112 crore station redevelopment project, which is 87% complete. The project incorporates Rameswaram temple-inspired architecture, terminal buildings, five lifts, four escalators, upgraded platforms and enhanced passenger amenities, particularly for pilgrims. The project is targeted for completion by March.

At Ramanathapuram, the GM inspected work being undertaken under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The completed work included the provision of two lifts on the existing foot overbridge, the creation of 1.3sqkm covered parking space, the relocation of the parcel office, health inspector room and track machine room, installation of passenger information systems along with train and coach indication boards, and the construction of platform fencing walls.
Work presently in progress included improvement of the circulating area with wider lanes for vehicle movement, development of a separate pedestrian pathway, façade works, construction of a new entry block with a waiting hall and reserved lounge, improvements to existing station buildings, provision of an additional six-metre-wide foot overbridge connecting platforms 1, 2 and 3 with a second entry, and accessibility features such as ramps with handrails, toilets and booking counters for the disabled.
