Six arrested for attacking BDO’s vehicle

Tirunelveli: Manur police have arrested six people and are on the lookout for 15 others for allegedly attacking the official vehicle of the block development officer (BDO), Shakthi Anupama, of Vasudevanallur on the Tirunelveli to Sankarankovil highway on Sunday night.

Police sources said that her driver Mari Maharajan hit an autorickshaw while overtaking a vehicle at Vengalapottal near Maanur. The autorickshaw driver Senthil Kumar allegedly assaulted Mari Maharajan after which the three-wheeler driver along with a few other villagers resorted to a road blockade.

In the push and pull, a section of agitators pelted stones on the BDO’s vehicle and some vehicles that queued up due to the road blockade. Based on a complaint lodged by Mari Maharajan (for assault) and the local police inspector (for blocking traffic), police registered a case against 21 people and arrested six. TNN
