Seven TNTJ men seek advance bail

Madurai: Seven functionaries of the Tamil Nadu Towheed Jamath (

) moved the Madras high court seeking anticipatory bail in a case registered against them for organising a protest condemning the Karnataka high court verdict on hijab ban in Ramanathapuram district, and allegedly threatening the judges who delivered the verdict.The court was hearing the petition filed by Al Malik Baizul,

and Althaf Usain who are apprehending arrest in a case registered by the Thiruvadanai police.On March 16, the petitioners sought permission from the police to stage a protest against the hijab ban verdict. However, police had denied permission. Despite denial of permission, the TNTJ members including the petitioners staged a protest on March 18. During the protest, one of the functionaries allegedly made a speech threatening the judges who delivered the verdict. A case was registered against the petitioners and others, based on the complaint lodged by the sub-inspector of police Ganesan.
