Madurai: Madurai city deputy mayor T Nagarajan on Wednesday inspected wards 45 and 86 after the residents complained of severe health hazard due to highly highly unhygienic conditions in the residential areas.
Around 600 families of conservancy workers of the city corporation live in ward 45. But the public toilets in this area are in a dilapidated condition. Residents said that the men’s toilet is not in a condition to use while the women’s toilet complex is badly damaged. The discharge from the toilet when used is not flowing into the underground sewage drain due to the blockage.
They complained to the deputy mayor that students have to wade through sewage water while going to the schools. Though they have complained to the civic authorities multiple times, there is no permanent solution. The corporation workers give only temporary solutions like removing the sewage block which happens the very next day, they said. So they urged the deputy mayor to find a permanent solution.
Nagarajan assured to work with the corporation officials and come up with solutions.
