MADURAI: Gowrishankar, 33, a
policeman
, committed
suicide
by hanging in his house near
Vilathikulam
in
Tuticorin
district on Thursday.
Gowrishankar was found dead by his wife Jenifa, 27, who is also with the police force in the same district. Gowrishankar is a constable in the Tharuvaikulam police station in Tuticorin while Jenifa serves in the armed reserve unit.
It was a love marriage for the couple eight years ago. They reside at Sankaralingapuram near Vilathikulam with their two children – a daughter and a son.
On Thursday morning, Jenifa went out to see off their children to school. When she returned home, she found her husband’s body hanging from the ceiling.
The Sankaralingapuram police retrieved his body and sent it to the Vilathikulam Government Hospital for autopsy.
Depression due to family issues is said to be the reason for the young policeman taking the extreme step. Police sources said that his father had died about a month ago. Gowrishankar had been on leave since then. It is said that Gowrishankar and his wife had difference of opinion in carrying out demolition and reconstruction work in their house.
Inquiries were also underway to find out if he had any pressure in the police department.
