MADURAI: The magistrate court here has passed orders issuing non-bailable warrant (NBW) to 'Power Star' Srinivasan in a cheque bouncing case. According to a petition filed by V Ganesh Kumar of Nehru Nagar, Madurai, Srinivasan had borrowed Rs 9 lakh from him on November 3, 2011. He had promised Kumar to repay the amount within two months, for which he gave post dated cheque too, according to the petitioner.

When the cheque was present at the Karur Vysya Bank branch in Madurai on February 6, 2012, it bounced due to insufficient funds in the account of Srinivasan.
Following it, a legal notice was sent to him who received the same and gave his reply. However, the petitioner was not convinced by the reply and filed the case before the judicial magistrate court on March 14 last year.
The court had directed the accused Srinivasan to appear before the court. But, he failed to appear even after several adjournments.
Lastly, the case came up before the magistrate court. At that time too, the accused did not appear. Following this, the magistrate passed orders to issue a non-bailable warrant against the accused and posted the matter to April 24.
Srinivasan is a physician who directed and acted in the movie 'Lathika' (2011). He later made guest appearances in movies like 'Mandapam, Unakkaga Oru Kavithai, Neethana Avan' and 'Indrasena'. He played a leading role in his recent film 'Kanna Laddu Thinna Asaiya' with Santhanam.
It may be recalled that several cheating cases had been filed before the magistrate courts in some districts including Trichy and Namakkal. Besides, the Chennai police had arrested him last September in a cheating case.
